In case of discrepancies between the German and the English version, the German version shall prevail.

Data protection is a high priority for the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB). It is generally possible to use the services of the TIB without providing any personal data. However, if a data subject wishes to make use of special services via the TIB website, it may be necessary to process personal data. If the processing of personal data is necessary and there is no legal basis for such processing, we obtain the consent of the data subject.

The processing of personal data, such as the name, address, e-mail address or telephone number of a data subject, is always carried out in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and the country- and institution-specific data protection regulations applicable to the TIB. By means of this data protection declaration, we would like to inform the public about the type, scope and purpose of the personal data we collect, use and process, as well as the rights to which data subjects are entitled.

The terms used in TIB's privacy policy are to be understood in the sense of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR ).

Contact possibility via the Internet pages

The TIB website contains information and forms that enable customers who are not registered with the TIB to contact us quickly electronically via a contact form or by e-mail by providing their name and e-mail address. The name and e-mail address are required for subsequent contact after clarification of the data subject's request. The personal data transmitted by the data subject to the TIB by e-mail or via a contact form are automatically stored internally and only for the purpose of processing or contacting the data subject.

Use of web analysis tools

We create anonymized statistics and analysis of access to our websites.

We use the open source software Matomo (formerly PIWIK) in anonymized form to compile web statistics. This means that no personal data is processed. The use of cookies in the Matomo web analysis software is deactivated.

When saving the user IP address, the last two octets are not processed. The recording of the user ID is deactivated. In addition to access to the page and the anonymized IP address, the following data is collected for the analysis: Date and time of the request, page title of the accessed page, URL of the previously accessed page (referrer URL), screen resolution of the client system, local time zone, URL of clicked and downloaded files, URL of clicked external domains, geolocation of the client (country, region, city), main language of the browser used, user agent of the browser used.

The information generated by Matomo about the use of this website is processed and stored exclusively by the TIB.

You may choose to prevent this website from aggregating and analyzing the actions you take here. Doing so will protect your privacy, but will also prevent the owner from learning from your actions and creating a better experience for you and other users.

In this case, an opt-out cookie is stored in the data subject's browser, which prevents Matomo from storing usage data. If the cookies are deleted, the Matomo opt-out cookie is also deleted. The objection (opt-out) must be repeated when you visit the TIB website again.

Cookies

The Internet pages of the TIB use cookies. Cookies are text files that are placed and stored on a computer system via an Internet browser and serve to make the TIB's website more user-friendly, effective and secure.

Most of the cookies we use are so-called "session cookies", which are automatically deleted at the end of the visit. Other cookies remain stored on the user's end device until the user deletes them. These cookies enable us to recognize the user's browser on the next visit.

Users can prevent the setting of cookies by the TIB website at any time by means of a corresponding setting in the Internet browser used and permanently object to this. Furthermore, cookies that have already been set can be deleted at any time via an Internet browser or other software programs. This is possible in all common Internet browsers. If the data subject deactivates the setting of cookies in the Internet browser used, not all functions of the TIB website may be fully usable.

Collection of general data and information (log files)

The TIB website automatically collects information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to the TIB, each time the website is accessed by a data subject. These are

  • Browser type and browser version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL
  • Host name of the accessing computer
  • IP address
  • Internet service provider of the accessing system
  • Time of the server request

As a rule, this data cannot be assigned to a specific person. This data is not merged with other data sources.

Routine deletion and blocking of personal data

The TIB processes and stores personal data of the data subject only for the period of time necessary to achieve the purpose of storage and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and the country- and institution-specific data protection regulations applicable to the TIB. Thereafter, the personal data will be routinely blocked or deleted in accordance with the statutory provisions.

Rights of the data subject

You have the right at any time to obtain information about the data stored in this library, its origin and recipients and the purpose of the data processing, as well as the right to rectification or erasure or restriction of processing or - insofar as the processing is based on your consent - a right of withdrawal, a right to object and the right to data portability. You can contact us at any time with regard to this and other questions on the subject of personal data.
