How can I publish videos on twillo?

If your video has already been published on another platform, you can link it to twillo. Select the +NEW button in your workspace. Click on New material and enter the URL for your video.

View of the workspace in the OER portal twillo with open 'New' drop-down menu for material, folder, online text editor and H5P

'Create new material' dialog box in the OER portal twillo with input field for a URL highlighted in red

If your video has not yet been published, you have two options: Either you publish it in the TIB AV-Portal or you upload your video directly to twillo. Since twillo and the TIB AV-Portal are linked, your video will also be findable via the twillo search if you decide to publish it in the AV-Portal.

1. publication in the TIB AV-Portal

The AV-Portal of the TIB - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology has transparent terms of use and is in the non-commercial area. It is financed by public funds and not by advertising or data processing. The publication is preceded by a curation process: All videos are checked in a similar way to how publications are included in a library catalog. With the legally compliant publication via the portal, the materials receive a DOI* and are made available worldwide, optimally searchable, citable to the second and sustainably usable. They are systematically analyzed for text, language and images and transcribed using artificial intelligence, making them searchable in a targeted manner. Further information can be found in the FAQ of the TIB AV-Portal or under Publishing scientific videos.

Important notes for publication

In the TIB AV-Portal you can publish OER videos primarily in the TIB core subjects (technology, architecture, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics) free of charge.

Are you a member of a university or scientific institution in Lower Saxony or North Rhine-Westphalia? Due to cooperation agreements, you can also publish films from other subjects free of charge in the TIB AV-Portal.

Are you a member of a university or scientific institution in another federal state and would like to publish films that are not part of the TIB core subjects? Please contact av-portal@tib.eu before uploading .

The TIB AV-Portal workflow

To upload videos to the TIB AV-Portal, please register here first. Then use the upload form and enter the metadata for your content. Please mark "OER" in the abstract or under keywords. As a rule, your material will be published in the TIB AV-Portal within a few days. If you would like to make changes, updates or similar to your content after publication, the TIB AV-Portal team will be happy to help you at any time.

You do not want to create your own account in the TIB AV-Portal or provide a larger number of videos (from approx. 15 files)? Please contact av-portal@tib.eu.

2. publication on twillo

Uploading a video directly to twillo is particularly useful if the video is a small file for which you do not (yet) wish to receive a DOI*. This may be the case, for example, if you are planning to revise or version the video. Even if you want to organize your video in a collection or series together with other materials, twillo is the right place to publish it.

If you have decided to upload directly to twillo, please proceed as described in our FAQ How do I upload materials to twillo?

*DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier. It is a unique and permanent digital identifier for digital objects. With a DOI, videos and video excerpts can be cited to the second and integrated into scientific papers like traditional citations from texts.
