With its own OER strategy, the C3L — Center for Lifelong Learning at the University of Oldenburg has set itself the goal of supporting and promoting freely accessible (self-)education through the creation and dissemination of Open Educational Resources (OER).

As a scientific center of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, the C3L is an important player in scientific continuing education in Germany. Its courses are aimed at all those interested in education and enable them to participate in the academic debate on socially relevant topics.

By providing learning materials as OER — preferably under a CC BY or CC BY SA license — the C3L contributes to understanding digital educational media as open and public resources in the context of educational processes, to using them for lifelong learning and to designing them together. In this way, the C3L makes a significant contribution to educational equity and enables all interested parties to engage in self-determined learning and design their own individual learning paths.

The C3L’s OER strategy contains four central guiding principles. The concrete implementation and design of the framework conditions for OER are based on the fields of action defined in the strategy.
