In this blog post, you will gain an insight into the work of the project team at the Universities of Göttingen and Osnabrück, which is involved in the production, curation and dissemination of open teaching/learning materials as part of the MWK’s OER funding for the higher education sector.

Business processes are an essential component of operational value creation and comprise the linking of individual activities in companies. By systematically recording, managing and transforming business processes, companies can determine the status quo of the execution of activities, identify problems and potential and make sustainable improvements.

The OER tandem project of the Universities of Göttingen and Osnabrück

The aim of the project “Methods and Technologies for the Digitalization of Business Processes in the Digital Transformation” is to comprehensively address the topic of the digitalization of business processes in companies from both a methodological and an application-oriented management perspective, taking into account central principles and current trends, and to make it available as Open Educational Resources (OER). The aim is to provide, test and disseminate an important building block for business studies, but also for interested parties from other disciplines and learners at universities. The two tandem partners (University of Osnabrück and University of Göttingen) are creating two complementary learning units that build on each other and prepare the topic in particular for the introductory phase of Bachelor’s students in business administration or business informatics, computer science and as key skills for non-business degree programs.

To this end, a flipped classroom approach is pursued, which consists of online learning materials (in particular so-called micro-learning videos, self-study tests and exercises) and can be supplemented by face-to-face exercises at the universities. The provision of online learning materials enables easy dissemination and integration at other universities. The face-to-face exercises are also documented in handouts so that they can also be easily integrated at other locations. The individual learning units can also be completed independently as online courses without face-to-face exercises.
