The showcase for our community: Every month we select three materials as OER of the month and publish a quote from active twillo users.

The aim of twillo is to promote the culture of sharing — and we need many fellow campaigners to achieve this. To show others why twillo is worth a look, we highlight those who are already active and present their best materials. We proudly showcase the work of our community and hope that we can inspire even more people for open university teaching. To this end, we not only award the title “OER of the month” three times a month, but also ask particularly active contributors for their opinion on twillo. We publish their statements as testimonials so that outsiders can gain an impression of our work through real experience reports. We publish the OER of the month and the testimonials on the twillo website and via our social media channels (Twitter and Mastodon).

OER of the month

At twillo, we select three OER of the month. The selected OER are characterized, for example, by particularly interesting topics, outstanding didactic concepts or well thought-out and well-structured metadata. In this way, we want to offer the contributors on our platform a showcase and recognize special OER gems. We will publish the three selected OER on our homepage for one month, after which we will rotate.

When selecting the OER of the month, we take care to reflect both the wide range of subjects and the variety of formats that correspond to the OER in twillo. In this way, we try to provide as comprehensive an insight as possible into the very different materials on twillo. We also apply the seven quality criteria explained in our quality self-check as far as possible:

  1. Scientific foundation
  2. Recyclability
  3. Application and transfer
  4. Assistance and support
  5. Motivation and didactics
  6. Structure and orientation
  7. Design, readability and accessible presentation

The more quality criteria are met, the greater the chance that an educational material will be chosen by our portal as the next OER of the month.

Testimonial

We also like to turn the tables and ask active users for their opinion. We share these on social media and present the testimonials on our homepage for a month with a picture and a quote about their experience with twillo. They are then added to the testimonial gallery in the Community section. We often ask the people whose material we have chosen as OER of the month. But we also collect other voices from OER practice.

We have developed guiding questions to serve as inspiration so that those providing quotes do not have to sit alone in front of a blank sheet of paper. Of course, users are completely free to choose their own words. We have formulated the questions that are most important to us and always provide great feedback:

  • What did you like about twillo?
  • What did twillo help you with?
  • Where were the challenges and what were the solutions?
  • How do you like our internet presence (website, portal, social media)?

The answers usually highlight our best aspects and often have to do with our support services and the information we have compiled on our website and social media channels. However, we have also received good suggestions from some of the statements as to how we can further advance and improve twillo. At this point, a big thank you to all the testimonials so far and their wonderful feedback!
