With the aim of estab\u00adlish\u00ading the use and cre\u00adation of open edu\u00adca\u00adtional mate\u00adri\u00adals, in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar Open Edu\u00adca\u00adtional Resources<\/em> (OER), in uni\u00adver\u00adsity teach\u00ading, a large num\u00adber of por\u00adtals and plat\u00adforms are oper\u00adated at state level, which exist largely inde\u00adpen\u00addently of each other. By set\u00adting up the twillo\u00adHub<\/strong>, the TIB \u2014 Leib\u00adniz Infor\u00adma\u00adtion Cen\u00adtre for Sci\u00adence and Tech\u00adnol\u00adogy is mak\u00ading a key con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion to the sus\u00adtain\u00adable tech\u00adni\u00adcal net\u00adwork\u00ading of these infra\u00adstruc\u00adtures \u2014 a pio\u00adneer\u00ading step towards transna\u00adtional coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion in the field of open edu\u00adca\u00adtion. <\/p>\n\n

As part of the twillo\u00adHub ser\u00advice offer\u00ading, TIB enables other coun\u00adtry ini\u00adtia\u00adtives or insti\u00adtu\u00adtions to use its tried and tested, reli\u00adable infra\u00adstruc\u00adture. This includes the twillo por\u00adtal for the pro\u00adcess\u00ading, man\u00adage\u00adment and dis\u00adsem\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion of freely acces\u00adsi\u00adble edu\u00adca\u00adtional mate\u00adri\u00adals and the TIB AV-Por\u00adtal<\/a> \u2014 a spe\u00adcial\u00adized plat\u00adform for sci\u00aden\u00adtific edu\u00adca\u00adtional films. The great advan\u00adtage for coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion part\u00adners of using the twillo\u00adHub is that they do not have to set up their own infra\u00adstruc\u00adture for upload\u00ading OER, which is costly and time-con\u00adsum\u00ading. <\/p>\n\n

In addi\u00adtion to oper\u00adat\u00ading, devel\u00adop\u00ading and main\u00adtain\u00ading the sys\u00adtem, the TIB also curates the meta\u00addata of the mate\u00adr\u00adial pro\u00advided, assigns DOIs (Dig\u00adi\u00adtal Object Iden\u00adti\u00adfiers) and pro\u00advides sup\u00adport for con\u00adtent-related and tech\u00adni\u00adcal issues. Through close com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion and the send\u00ading of sta\u00adtis\u00adti\u00adcal reports, mem\u00adbers of the twillo\u00adHub are always informed about all rel\u00ade\u00advant activ\u00adi\u00adties in the por\u00adtals. <\/p>\n\n

The meta\u00addata of the edu\u00adca\u00adtional mate\u00adri\u00adals pub\u00adlished in the TIB AV-Por\u00adtal<\/a> and on twillo are dis\u00adtrib\u00aduted via an OAI inter\u00adface, includ\u00ading in the OERSI search index<\/a>. This ensures that the mate\u00adri\u00adals pro\u00advided can be found eas\u00adily and also increases their vis\u00adi\u00adbil\u00adity. <\/p>\n\n

A look into practice:
Successful collaboration between TIB and ORCA.nrw<\/a> at twilloHub<\/h2>\n\n

The first offi\u00adcial twillo\u00adHub coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion was launched in 2024, with the Open Resources Cam\u00adpus NRW(ORCA.nrw<\/a>) using the back\u00adends of TIB Ser\u00advices to man\u00adage open edu\u00adca\u00adtional mate\u00adri\u00adals. This coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion between North Rhine-West\u00adphalia and Lower Sax\u00adony in dig\u00adi\u00adtal uni\u00adver\u00adsity teach\u00ading cre\u00adates syn\u00ader\u00adgies (see MWK press release 19.07.2024<\/a>). All con\u00adtent pre\u00advi\u00adously stored on ORCA\u2019s own infra\u00adstruc\u00adture has been trans\u00adferred to the AV por\u00adtal and twillo. In addi\u00adtion, the approx\u00adi\u00admately 40 uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties in North Rhine-West\u00adphalia are con\u00adnected to twillo via DFN, so that reg\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion can take place directly via sin\u00adgle sign-on at your own uni\u00adver\u00adsity (for more infor\u00adma\u00adtion on login options and DFN, see FAQ<\/a>). <\/p>\n\n

To ensure the best pos\u00adsi\u00adble sup\u00adport for ORCA users, the net\u00adwork offices and ORCA.nrw<\/a> staff in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar are in close con\u00adtact with the TIB sup\u00adport staff, from which both sides ben\u00ade\u00adfit greatly with regard to the fur\u00adther devel\u00adop\u00adment of the ser\u00advices.<\/p>\n\n

The col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion between ORCA.nrw<\/a> and TIB rep\u00adre\u00adsents the first step towards a cen\u00adtral infra\u00adstruc\u00adture for open higher edu\u00adca\u00adtion mate\u00adri\u00adals in Ger\u00admany that can respond flex\u00adi\u00adbly to the needs of teach\u00aders and learn\u00aders. It serves as a model for fur\u00adther col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtions and paves the way for a sus\u00adtain\u00adable and future-ori\u00adented open edu\u00adca\u00adtional world. <\/p>\n\n
