A very prac\u00adti\u00adcal exam ques\u00adtion is:<\/p>\n\n

- Or are they insep\u00ada\u00adra\u00adbly inte\u00adgrated into a work (a remix in the strict sense)? \u2192 In that case, the respec\u00adtive orig\u00adi\u00adnal licenses apply; it is prac\u00adti\u00adcally impos\u00adsi\u00adble to \u201csep\u00ada\u00adrate\u201d them from the licens\u00ading frame\u00adwork. <\/p>\n\n
Let\u2019s look at some exam\u00adples from the field of edu\u00adca\u00adtion regard\u00ading com\u00adpi\u00adla\u00adtion and remix\u00ading:<\/p>\n\n
In these cases, CC mate\u00adri\u00adals are used, but they are pre\u00adsented more as \u201cside-by-side\u201d ele\u00adments. They remain rec\u00adog\u00adniz\u00adable as inde\u00adpen\u00addent works and can also be dis\u00adtrib\u00aduted sep\u00ada\u00adrately from a tech\u00adni\u00adcal stand\u00adpoint. <\/p>\n\n
A course is cre\u00adated in Moo\u00addle, ILIAS, or Can\u00advas:<\/p>\n\n

A course web\u00adsite con\u00adtains ten mod\u00adules:<\/p>\n\n
- Mod\u00adules 1, 3, and 5 were devel\u00adoped in-house (CC BY).<\/p>\n\n
- Mod\u00adule 2 is repro\u00adduced ver\u00adba\u00adtim from an OER licensed under CC BY-SA.<\/p>\n\n

Each mod\u00adule is a sep\u00ada\u00adrate sub\u00adpage with clear licens\u00ading infor\u00adma\u00adtion (e.g., in the footer or mod\u00adule header). The image remains a sep\u00ada\u00adrate work with its own CC license. It\u2019s only when the image is cre\u00adatively edited and blended with other ele\u00adments to form some\u00adthing new that you enter the realm of remix\u00ading.<\/p>\n\n
A col\u00adlec\u00adtion of slides is being cre\u00adated:<\/p>\n\n
- Slides 1\u20139 were cre\u00adated in-house (CC BY)<\/p>\n\n
- Slides 10\u201315 are taken directly from a CC BY-SA pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion with\u00adout any changes<\/p>\n\n
- Slides 16\u201320 from a CC BY pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion by another uni\u00adver\u00adsity.<\/p>\n\n
No changes are made to the exter\u00adnal slides, but they are iden\u00adti\u00adfied as clearly defined blocks (\u201cSlides 10\u201315: from OER XY, CC BY-SA 4.0\u201d). Legally, this can still be con\u00adsid\u00adered a col\u00adlec\u00adtion of slide sets. <\/p>\n\n
The fol\u00adlow\u00ading are avail\u00adable in the course sec\u00adtion:<\/p>\n\n

All three mate\u00adri\u00adals are down\u00adload\u00adable as sep\u00ada\u00adrate files, each with its own license infor\u00adma\u00adtion. The script can be CC BY-licensed, the other files remain under their respec\u00adtive CC licenses; together they form a col\u00adlec\u00adtion, not an inte\u00adgrated remix. <\/p>\n\n
In a true remix, sev\u00aderal CC works are com\u00adbined in such a way that a new, uni\u00adfied work is cre\u00adated in which the orig\u00adi\u00adnal sources can no longer be eas\u00adily iso\u00adlated. In this case, the orig\u00adi\u00adnal licenses deter\u00admine the license options for the entire work. It is no longer pos\u00adsi\u00adble to exclude indi\u00advid\u00adual mate\u00adri\u00adals. <\/p>\n\n
A chap\u00adter is cre\u00adated:<\/p>\n\n
- Sec\u00adtions are taken from a CC BY text, a CC BY-SA text or a CC BY-NC text.<\/p>\n\n
- The lan\u00adguage is adapted, tran\u00adsi\u00adtions are writ\u00adten, own exam\u00adples are added and every\u00adthing is reor\u00adga\u00adnized.<\/p>\n\n
At the end there is a con\u00adtin\u00adu\u00adous text in which the reader can no longer tell which pas\u00adsage comes from which source. This is an adaptation\/remix of sev\u00aderal CC sources. The con\u00addi\u00adtions of the strictest license involved (e.g. SA or NC) apply to the chap\u00adter as a whole. <\/p>\n\n
A new info\u00adgraphic is cre\u00adated:<\/p>\n\n
- Three CC dia\u00adgrams (process graph\u00adics, time\u00adlines) serve as a start\u00ading point.<\/p>\n\n
- An image edit\u00ading pro\u00adgram is used to move ele\u00adments, change col\u00adors, add your own icons and com\u00adbine every\u00adthing into a sin\u00adgle new image.<\/p>\n\n
The new graphic is an adap\u00adta\u00adtion of mul\u00adti\u00adple CC works. The orig\u00adi\u00adnal CC licenses apply to the entire image; this is a clas\u00adsic remix. <\/p>\n\n
An instruc\u00adtional video is cre\u00adated:<\/p>\n\n
- Sequences are cut out of three CC videos (e.g. exper\u00adi\u00adment, inter\u00adview, ani\u00adma\u00adtion).<\/p>\n\n
- These clips are mixed, a voice-over track is super\u00adim\u00adposed and CC-licensed images and icons are added.<\/p>\n\n
Result: a uni\u00adform video as one file. This is a remix in the nar\u00adrower sense \u2014 the indi\u00advid\u00adual CC sources are merged into the new com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtion. The license con\u00addi\u00adtions of the strictest license (espe\u00adcially with SA, NC) deter\u00admine under which CC license the entire video may be pub\u00adlished. <\/p>\n\n
An H5P \u201cInter\u00adac\u00adtive Book\u201d is being built:<\/p>\n\n
- Text sec\u00adtions from CC BY and CC BY-SA OER are copied in and par\u00adtially rewrit\u00adten.<\/p>\n\n
- CC images and quiz ques\u00adtions from other OER will be added.<\/p>\n\n
- The end result is a con\u00adtin\u00adu\u00adous learn\u00ading path in a sin\u00adgle H5P file.<\/p>\n\n
The result is a remix of the OER used. The con\u00adtent is tech\u00adni\u00adcally mixed and can no longer be mean\u00ading\u00adfully sep\u00ada\u00adrated. <\/p>\n\n
Sev\u00aderal CC pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtions (e.g. BY, BY-SA, CC0) are opened:<\/p>\n\n
- Indi\u00advid\u00adual slides or con\u00adtent are copied into a new pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n
- Texts are changed, graph\u00adics adapted, the design har\u00admo\u00adnized and own slides added.<\/p>\n\n

For prac\u00adti\u00adcal teach\u00ading and OER pro\u00adduc\u00adtion, it is worth ask\u00ading con\u00adscious ques\u00adtions about every com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of mate\u00adri\u00adals:<\/p>\n\n
Is the third-party con\u00adtent technically\/legally sep\u00ada\u00adra\u00adble, clearly labeled and also sep\u00ada\u00adrately reusable? Or is a uni\u00adform new work cre\u00adated in which the orig\u00adi\u00adnal mate\u00adri\u00adals are inte\u00adgrated? <\/p>\n\n
For courses, pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtions and H5P con\u00adtent in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar, it helps to think about this dis\u00adtinc\u00adtion at an early stage \u2014 then license traps can be avoided and the edu\u00adca\u00adtional mate\u00adri\u00adals can be delib\u00ader\u00adately designed in such a way that they remain as open and reusable as pos\u00adsi\u00adble.<\/p>\n\n
