What do I have to consider when specifying a license?

In the metadata dialog (see instructions "What is metadata and how can I edit the metadata of my material?") you have the option of assigning a license for the material you have provided. To do this, select Manage license in the License area. In the following window, you first have the option of selecting the licenses CC 0, CC-BY and CC-BY-SA. If the desired license is not included, deactivate the OER licenses only option using the slider at the top right.

License selection opened. The 'OER licenses only' button at the top right is activated and highlighted with a red frame.

If you select Creative Commons from the drop-down menu in the following window, you will be guided through the rest of the license selection process with the help of two questions.

License selection opened: 'Creative Commons' is highlighted in the selection field and outlined in red. Below this, options for editing and commercial use are visible.

The latest license version is automatically preset. If you would like to change this, you can do so using the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window.

License version selected: In the 'Currently selected license' area, 'Version 4.0' is highlighted and outlined in red.

In addition to the Creative Commons licenses mentioned above for text, audio and video materials, you can select the GNU General Public, Apacheand MIT licenses for software applications. To do this, deactivate the "OER licenses only" checkbox and select the appropriate software license for your material from the drop-down menu.

Dropdown opened: Red frame marks the license selection with the options 'No license selected', 'CC0 / Public Domain (public domain)', 'Creative Commons', 'GNU General Public License (software license)', 'Apache License (software license)' and 'MIT License (software license)'.

Once you have saved your license details, the selected license will be visible in the description of your materials. A link to the license text is created automatically. Further information on Creative Commons licenses can be found here.
