Collaboratively Developing Teaching Materials—The Potential of OER and AI

Teach­ing mate­ri­als are often devel­oped over the course of many semes­ters and are con­tin­u­ously adapted and expanded. This work­shop demon­strates how exist­ing mate­ri­als can be sus­tain­ably refined, made openly acces­si­ble, and mean­ing­fully enhanced through the use of arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence.

The work­shop is part of the Uni­ver­sity of Osnabrück’s Higher Edu­ca­tion Teach­ing Qual­i­fi­ca­tion Pro­gram and is offered as an elec­tive in Mod­ule 3. Par­tic­i­pa­tion is open to fac­ulty mem­bers at the Uni­ver­sity of Osnabrück.

The work­shop con­sists of a four-hour in-per­son ses­sion and a two-hour online ses­sion. Dur­ing the in-per­son ses­sion, par­tic­i­pants will first learn the basics of Open Edu­ca­tional Resources (OER), open licenses, and suit­able file for­mats. After­ward, par­tic­i­pants will review their own teach­ing mate­ri­als and iden­tify oppor­tu­ni­ties to develop them fur­ther as OER. Par­tic­i­pants are wel­come to bring their own teach­ing mate­ri­als to the work­shop.

Build­ing on this, the ses­sion will demon­strate how arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence can sup­port the cre­ation, revi­sion, and adap­ta­tion of teach­ing mate­ri­als, and what ped­a­gog­i­cal oppor­tu­ni­ties this offers. Dur­ing the online ses­sion, par­tic­i­pants will work with a fully qual­i­fied attor­ney to address prac­ti­cal legal issues sur­round­ing OER, open licenses, and the use of AI in teach­ing.
